Peterson Ridge and the high country of eastern Umatilla County are defined here by a series of steep drainages and prominent peaks. The landscape is carved by the N Fork Walla Walla River, which flows through the southern portion of the quadrangle, and numerous forks of Cottonwood Cr that reach into the northern heights. High points like Pikes Peak, Saddle Mtn, and Government Mtn dominate the horizon, illustrating the transition from deep valley floors to upland ridges.
