Big Petroglyphs marks a significant archaeological site within this arid landscape, located in the eastern portion of the Coso Range. The terrain is defined by a series of deep drainage systems that have carved through the volcanic geology, including Horse Canyon, Sheep Canyon, and the aptly named Dead End Canyon. These geographic features suggest a history of seasonal water flow and ancient human passage through the high desert of Inyo County.
