Photograph Gap and the surrounding high desert plateau define this part of San Juan County, where water is the primary architect of the landscape. The drainage systems of Harts Draw and Harts Spring Draw cut through the terrain, leading toward Harts Spring in the north. This 2020 edition shows a network of rural roads, including Sugar Loaf Rd and N Flats Rd, which provide access to the expansive Dry Valley and the prominent heights of Harts Point. To the southeast, Peters Point and Peters Point Ridge mark the transition into more broken country near Hog Canyon. The map records a landscape of seasonal washes like Tank Wash and Lightning Draw, illustrating the relationship between named canyon features such as Turner Water Canyon and the necessary infrastructure of the modern West.
