The Arkansas River corridor defines this portion of western Kansas, where the river valley transitions into the expansive upland plains of Pierceville and Logan townships. The settlement of Pierceville is positioned along the northern bank, anchored by the infrastructure of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad which parallels the river. This 1965 photogrammetric survey reveals an landscape of natural resource extraction and utility, characterized by numerous Gas Wells scattered across the northern sections and a Gravel Pit near the riverbank. Significant regional infrastructure is present in the western portion of the sheet, most notably the Garden City Municipal Airport and its associated Reservoir. Local history and genealogy are preserved at the Pierceville Cem, located on the eastern edge of the community near the Finney and Gray county line.
