Pinto Hot Springs and West Pinto Hot Spring emerge from the high desert floor in this 2015 survey of Humboldt County. The thermal activity is centered north of the prominent Pinto Mtn, a landform that dominates the local topography. To the southeast, the terrain transitions into the edge of the Black Rock Desert, a characteristic alkaline flat. Water resources in this arid environment are critical and clearly marked, including Sheep Head Spring and the seasonal flows of Battle Cr and Paiute Cr. Human infrastructure is sparse, defined primarily by the path of Leonard Creek Rd as it skirts the western edge of the highlands. This map provides a detailed look at the geothermal and hydrographic features of a landscape where water, even in its heated form, dictates the patterns of the land.
