Silvies River meanders through the southern half of this Harney County landscape, feeding into a complex network of waterways including Fivemile Slough and Foley Slough. This 2014 survey reveals a transition from the riparian lowlands of the river basin to the dramatic elevations of the north, where Mahogany Ridge dominates the terrain. High-country drainage is defined by deep cuts such as Devine Canyon and Black Canyon, which channel seasonal flow toward the valley floor.
