Tongass National Forest dominates this coastal landscape on the eastern shore of Kuiu Island, where the temperate rainforest meets the intricate waterways of Southeast Alaska. The geography is defined by deep inlets and freshwater systems, most notably the expansive Elena Bay which carves into the southern portion of the sheet. To the north, Kutlaku Lake and its drainage, Kutlaku Cr, provide a glimpse into the island's interior hydrology before emptying toward the Gulf of Alaska. Further south, the map details the Alecks Lake basin and the winding path of Alecks Creek as it reaches the tidal flats. This 2017 survey illustrates the complex relationship between the steep, forested slopes of the Alexander Archipelago and the sheltered waters of Happy Cove, providing essential data for navigating this roadless wilderness.
