Powderhorn Lakes sit at the southern reaches of this high-elevation terrain, where the drainage systems of Gunnison Co and Hinsdale Co converge. The landscape is dominated by the broad expanse of the Calf Creek Plateau, a high-country feature that dictates the flow of numerous alpine watercourses. A network of primitive roads, including Co RD 58 and its spurs Co RD 58a and Co RD 58b, provides the only vehicular access through this complex topography of gulches and creeks.
