The Cowlitz River carves through the heart of this landscape, its valley floor containing the small community of Cora and the appropriately named Big Bottom. This area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest is defined by high-elevation peaks and ridges, most notably Purcell Mtn and Pompey Peak. The terrain is marked by a complex network of forest development roads, such as Davis Creek Rd and Silverbrook Rd, which provide access to more remote locations like Little Paradise and Whalehead Ridge.
