Broken Hills sits at the northern end of this high-desert basin, where the borders of Churchill, Mineral, and Nye Counties converge. This 2015 survey illustrates a landscape defined by sharp elevation shifts and wide alluvial plains, characteristic of the Great Basin's basin-and-range topography. The settlement of Quartz Mtn is situated centrally among these arid slopes, serving as a primary point of reference in a region otherwise dominated by broad natural features. The terrain is divided by the Lodi Hills, which separate the expansive Lodi Valley to the east from the Gabbs Valley in the west. These valleys represent the characteristic drainage and deposition patterns of central Nevada, where ephemeral water systems and desert landforms dictate the placement of human activity and travel routes.
