Coconino National Forest and Sitgreaves National Forest meet in this high-altitude landscape of the Mogollon Rim country. The settlement of Blue Ridge anchors the southwest corner, showing a dense residential street network including Starlight Dr and Knollwood Dr that contrasts with the surrounding wilderness. The terrain is defined by dramatic changes in elevation, from the heights of Quayle Hill and Red Hill to the deep incisions of Jacks Canyon and Wilkins Canyon.

A critical network of water catchments, or tanks, is scattered across the plateau to support local livestock and wildlife in this arid environment. These include curiously named landmarks like Tank in the Road, Cow Trap Tank, and Sinkhole Tank. Historic movement through the forest is preserved in the tracks of the Soldiers Crossing Trl and Red Hill Trl, while Chavez Draw provides a natural drainage route through the northern sections of the survey.
