Appalachian National Scenic Trail hikers traverse the southern portion of this landscape, crossing the slopes of Nesuntabunt Mtn before descending toward the shores of Nahmakanta Lake. The terrain is defined by a dense network of glacial water bodies, from the expansive Rainbow Lake and Chesuncook Lake to smaller, clustered features like the Murphy Ponds and Bean Ponds. The presence of the Golden Rd in the northwest provides one of the few managed access points into this remote timberland region.
