The Marais des Cygnes River meanders through the southeastern portion of this landscape, marking the transition between the agricultural uplands of Franklin Co and Miami Co. Near the western edge, the settlement of Rantoul serves as a local hub, situated where the E Flint Hills Nature Trail cuts across the section lines. This trail, following a former rail corridor, links the smaller community of Stanton and the outskirts of Osawatomie to the east.
