Mining operations dominate this corner of Mesa County where the Dolores River and San Miguel River converge. The landscape is defined by massive plateau structures such as Lone Tree Mesa, Blue Mesa, and Martin Mesa, punctuated by a high density of uranium and radium claims. Significant concentrations of these operations are found within Red Canyon and Beehive Canyon, including the Radium King Mine and Red Rock Number 5 Mine.
