Silver Lake and the surrounding high-elevation basins define this 2012 survey of the southern Cascades. The landscape is dotted with glacial and volcanic features, from the prominent volcanic peak of Red Cinder to the clustered waters of North Caribou and South Caribou. Recreation sites are concentrated around the larger water bodies, including Silver Bowl Campground, Rocky Knoll Campground, and the Silver Beach Picnic Area.
