Lassen Volcanic National Park and the surrounding Lassen National Forest define this high-elevation landscape on the border of Lassen and Plumas counties. Volcanic activity of the past is written into the terrain at Red Cinder and Black Cinder Rock, while the glacial legacy is evident in the dense network of alpine lakes. These water bodies range from the larger Silver Lake and Echo Lake to smaller pockets like Cypress Lake, Betty Lake, and Shotoverin Lake.
