The Saranac River and its North Branch converge at Clayburg, forming a central corridor through this portion of the northern Adirondacks. To the northeast, the settlement of Redford is organized along Clinton St and Church St, while the small hamlet of Swastika lies in the southeast corner near Black Brook. Much of the landscape is dominated by the high peaks of the Silver Lake Mountains and Potter Mountains, part of the larger Adirondack Park Preserve. Local transport and recreation are centered around Silver Lake in the southwest, near the community of Hawkeye. The presence of the Adirondack Airpark Estates Airport near Hardhack Ridge highlights the modern intersection of private aviation with this protected wilderness area.
