The Pearl River winds through this southern portion of Leake County, defining a landscape of creek-fed bottoms and scattered rural communities. By the late 1980s, the area remained characterized by its network of small country churches and cemeteries, such as Mt Charity Ch and Mary Bethel Ch, which served as the social anchors for settlements like Renfroe and Sunrise. The meandering course of Lobutcha Creek dominates the central terrain, eventually feeding into the river system.

A notable remnant of the area's earlier transport economy is the Old Railroad Grade visible near the river, a quiet marker of changing infrastructure. Further south, the presence of the Landing Strip and Leake Memorial Gardens reflects the slow evolution of land use toward the end of the 20th century. Smaller drainages like Coon Creek and Horne Branch carve through the northern hills, illustrating the topographical variety that influenced early settlement patterns in this part of Mississippi.
