Umpqua National Forest defines much of this terrain along the Douglas and Jackson County line, where the landscape is marked by prominent ridges and watercourses. High points such as Richter Mtn, Threehorn Mtn, and Diamond Rock punctuate the topography, separated by significant saddles like Tombstone Gap and Neuman Gap. The drainage system is particularly dense, with the South-Fork Cow Creek and East Fork Cow Creek joining several smaller streams like Drew Creek and Mitchell Creek. Modern management of this timberland is reflected in the extensive network of Forest Service roads, such as Nfst-3201414, which provide access to interior features like Drew Lake. The presence of named open areas like Long Prairie amidst the densely contoured ridges of Callahan Ridge and Wildcat Ridge suggests the diverse vegetative pockets found within this portion of the Rogue River Range.
