The Lewis River and its East Fork Lewis River define the northern and western margins of this Clark County landscape, where the floodplain gives way to the rising elevations of Allen Canyon. At the turn of the 1990s, the western edge is dominated by the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, protecting complex wetland systems including Mud Lake, Carty Lake, and Campbell Lake. A network of levees and a Drawbridge facilitate navigation and land management near the riverbanks.
