Steuben Place and several other historic homesteads and sites dot the high ridges of Tehama County in this 2012 survey. The landscape is defined by the drainages of S Fork Elder Cr and Mill Cr, which carve through a network of named peaks including Brush Mountain, Red Mountain, and Eagle Peak. These elevations are connected by a complex system of Forest Service routes, such as Forest Rte M2 and Colyear Springs Rd, tracing the movement of ranching and forestry across the centuries.
