Robbers Roost Canyon and its complex network of drainage systems define this landscape in Las Animas County. The topography is deeply incised by named features such as Sidehill Canyon, Shell Canyon, and Matthews Canyon, which eventually feed into seasonal watercourses like Two Butte Cr and Dugout Cr. This area is characterized by sparse settlement, where the human presence is primarily indicated by a grid of county roads including Co RD 66 and Co RD 62. A notable point of local history is the Cedar Hill Cem, situated on a plateau near the eastern edge of the survey area. Essential water sources in this arid terrain, such as Sidehill Spring and Grape Spring, appear as critical landmarks within the rugged breaks of the canyon country.
