Robbers Roost Canyon and its complex network of drainage basins define this arid section of Las Animas County. The landscape is carved by numerous tributaries including Two Butte Cr, Dugout Cr, and Johnny Cr, creating a rugged topography of high plateaus and deep cuts like Horse Canyon and Shell Canyon. In the eastern portion of the map, the Cedar Hill Cem stands as a focal point for genealogical research, situated near the headwaters of Dinner Br. The settlement pattern here is sparse, characterized primarily by isolated water sources such as Sidehill Spring and Grape Spring, which were vital for early ranching and survival in the high plains. A grid of county roads, including Co RD 62 and Co RD 66, provide the primary access through these townships, tracing the natural contours of the canyons and creeks.
