Big Lagoon Indian Reservation and the coastal lagoons of Dry Lagoon State Park define the shoreline on this 1960s study of the Humboldt coast. Between the Pacific Ocean and the inland timberlands, the landscape is marked by a series of significant water bodies, including Stone Lagoon and Big Lagoon, which are separated from the sea by narrow sand dunes and Sharp Point.

Further inland, the terrain rises toward Rodgers Peak, where the drainage of Redwood Creek supports the Grove of the Giants. This area includes the famous Howard Libbey Tree, which was identified as the world's tallest tree just a few years before this map was field-checked. Traces of industrial history are visible through an Old Railroad Grade and a Quarry on Pitcher Creek, while large tracts remain labeled as Private landholdings.
