1973 Map of Sabino

USGS Topo · Published 1978

About this map

Sabino sits at the northern edge of this high-plains landscape, where the flat mesas of New Mexico are deeply incised by a complex network of canyons and seasonal watercourses. The drainage of Tequesquite Creek and its many tributaries, such as Las Canelas Creek and Vigil Canyon, create a labyrinthine topography that dictated the placement of early settlements and seasonal camps. The map reveals a history of isolated ranching and rural habitation, evidenced by Old Sabino Camp and several family or community burial grounds including Trujillo Cem and Garcia Cem.
