Death Valley National Park encompasses a significant portion of this desert terrain, where the northern reaches of the Mojave Desert meet the rising elevations of the Amargosa Range. The landscape is defined by the drainage of the Amargosa River and its designated Amargosa Wild and Scenic River corridor, which flows through the eastern portion of the sheet. Notable hydrologic and topographic features including Amargosa Spring and Salt Cr provide a focus for study in an otherwise arid environment.
