Clear Lake Reservoir dominates the southern landscape of this 2012 survey, its expansive waters meeting the high desert terrain of the California-Oregon border. This high-altitude basin relies heavily on a managed water network, visible in the prominence of the Willow Valley Reservoir to the north and numerous seasonal water sources such as Mammoth Springs and Elder Spring. The transition from water to uplands is marked by the eponymous Sagebrush Butte, which rises above the drainages of Willow Cr and Boles Cr. Movement through this isolated region is dictated by a few primary routes including Kowolowske Rd and Willow Valley Rd. This map documents a landscape where ranching infrastructure, like the Notch Corrals, remains a vital component of the local geography within the arid Wilson Valley.
