Saint Mary Peak serves as the literal and figurative high point of this section of the Bitterroot National Forest in Ravalli County. The landscape is defined by its dramatic relief, with numerous drainages flowing eastward toward the Bitterroot Valley. These include Sweeney Cr, Bass Cr, and Kootenai Cr, which have carved deep canyons into the mountain front. High-altitude features like Lappi Lake and the steep slopes around Kennedy Gulch highlight the alpine character of the terrain.
