Lolo National Forest and the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness dominate this high-altitude terrain along the boundary of Missoula and Ravalli counties. The landscape is defined by a series of prominent summits including Lolo Peak, Mormon Peak, and Sweeney Peak, which rise above a network of alpine basins and drainages. The Lolo Trail traverses the northern ridges, following the historic path through the Bitterroot Mountains.
