Sal Mountain dominates the high elevation terrain in this portion of the Lemhi Range, where the steep slopes descend toward the Lemhi Valley. This 2017 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey reveals a landscape defined by sharp elevation changes and high-altitude drainage systems such as Sevenmile Cr and Withington Cr. Much of the southwestern portion of the sheet is protected as part of the Salmon National Forest, characterized by numerous named peaks including K Mtn and the appropriately named Mill Mountain.
