Santa Ana Pueblo and the neighboring Canjillon Pueblo stand as the primary centers of settlement on this high desert landscape, positioned where the waters of the Jemez River meet the rising land of the Santa Ana Mesa. The geography is defined by the engineering of the Jemez Canyon Dam, which holds the Jemez Canyon Reservoir at the southern end of the quadrangle. This infrastructure is a critical water management point before the river joins the Rio Grande further south.
