Savona occupies the valley where the Cohocton River bends southward, serving as a primary point of settlement along this river corridor. The landscape is defined by a series of significant elevations including Irish Hill, Oak Hill, and Brown Hill, which separate the river valley from the drainage of Mud Creek. A cluster of glacial water bodies—Sanford Lake, Van Keuren Lake, Round Lake, and Peterson Lake—lies tucked between the ridges near the small community of Sonora.
