The Milk River meanders sharply through the heart of the northern Montana plains in this modern survey of the Savoy area. A complex network of irrigation infrastructure defines the local landscape, with the N Canal, Main Canal A, and Main Canal B channeling water across the flatlands south of the river. This engineered water system operates alongside natural features like the Old Thunder Slough and multiple tributaries including Wayne Cr and Savoy Cr. Evidence of the region’s cultural history is found at the Fort Belknap Cem, located just north of the canal works. Local travel is facilitated by a grid of rural routes such as Old Savoy Rd and River Rd, while State Hwy 396 provides the primary east-west connection through the small settlement of Savoy itself.
