Schoolhouse Butte dominates the high desert landscape of Humboldt County, standing as a prominent landmark east of the Jackson Mountains. This terrain is defined by a series of drainages and spurs, such as the Trout Creek Spur in the northeast, where seasonal water flow has carved the landscape. The hydrography of the region is a mix of natural creek beds and early water management, evidenced by the Bull Cr Ditch which redirects flow from Bull Cr in the southern portion of the quadrangle.
