The eastern edges of Sedalia transition into the rolling rural landscape of Pettis County, where a dense network of suburban streets gives way to open acreage and winding watercourses. This area is characterized by several significant community sites, including the expansive Crown Hill Cemetery and the Hebrew Cemetery. To the east, the Sedalia Memorial Airport serves as a modern landmark, while the surrounding countryside is dotted with smaller family or community burial grounds like the Abell Cemetery and Salem Cemetery.

Water defines the topography south of the city, where Flat Creek and Walnut Creek meander through the terrain. Evidence of older transport routes remains at Backbone Ford, while small bodies of water such as Lake Bubida and Marvin Howard Lake provide local points of interest. The small settlement of Valda appears in the southwestern corner, situated near the Bethlehem Cemetery along the banks of the Spring Fork.
