Esperson Dome Oil Field and the Gum Bayou Oil Field define the industrial character of this Liberty County landscape, where energy extraction meets an extensive network of water management. The flat terrain is crisscrossed by an intricate system of drainage and irrigation, including the Dayton Canal, Lynchburg Canal, and the Cedar Point Lateral. These man-made waterways serve numerous water bodies such as J M Frost Reservoir Number 2 and W Scott Frost Reservoir Number 1, both supported by significant levee systems.
