Bruneau Canyon dominates this arid landscape, carving a deep path through the extensive plateaus of the Blackstone Desert and Diamond A Desert. The drainage network is defined by the Bruneau River and the East Fork Bruneau River, which converge amidst a series of high mesas including Arch Table and Columbet Table. Settlement is sparse, centered primarily around the community of Grasmere and its nearby landing strip.

The southwestern corner contains a portion of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, where local geography is marked by Buckhorn Reservoir and Bull Creek Reservoir. This late-twentieth-century study shows a reliance on seasonal water management for ranching and transit, evidenced by numerous named reservoirs like Worley Reservoir and Tindall Reservoir, alongside the isolated Murphy Hot Springs Airport near the border of Owyhee and Elko Counties.
