About this map

Lake Ashtabula, a reservoir created by the damming of the Sheyenne River, dominates the central landscape of this Barnes County region. The small settlement of Sibley sits along the eastern shore of the lake, while the village of Luverne is positioned near the northern boundary. The terrain is characterized by the river valley and numerous prairie potholes, many of which are protected within the Steele County Waterfowl Production Area and the Barnes County Waterfowl Production Area. For outdoor enthusiasts, the North Country National Scenic Trl winds along the western bluffs overlooking the river, providing a continuous recreational corridor through the section lines of T144N and T143N. The map reflects a predominantly rural agricultural layout, with a precise grid of section roads like 14th St SE and 121st Ave SE connecting isolated farmsteads across the county line between Griggs and Steele Counties.
