Lake George dominates the eastern edge of this Adirondack landscape, where the waters of Silver Bay and Bass Bay meet a coastline marked by steep elevations and narrow landings. The rugged shoreline is punctuated by Sabbath-Day Point and Deer Leap, while numerous islands such as Vicars Island and the Harbor Islands dot the lake's surface. To the south, the Tongue Mountain Range rises sharply from the water, creating a formidable natural barrier that separates the lake from the interior drainages of Northwest Bay Brook and Fly Brook.

Inland, the terrain is characterized by a series of high peaks, including Beech Mtn and Catamount Mtn, interspersed with isolated water bodies like Jabe Pond and Swede Pond. Human settlement is concentrated along the lakefront at Hague and Huletts Landing, connected by winding routes like Lakeshore Dr. Traces of earlier upland life remain visible at the Wardsboro Cem and the small clearing of the former Wardsboro settlement, tucked away from the more developed resort areas on the coast.
