The Slate Mountains anchor the southwestern corner of this landscape, rising above the desert floor where the Pinal Co Pima Co boundary line divides the terrain. This desert expanse is defined by complex drainage patterns, most notably the seasonal course of the Tat Momoli Wash as it cuts through the Tat Momoli Valley. To the northeast, the Sawtooth Mountains provide a sharp vertical contrast to the broad, flat reaches of the Aguirre Valley.
