About this map

The Papago Indian Reservation encompasses much of this desert landscape, where drainage patterns are defined by the winding Tat Momoli Wash as it moves through the Valley. The arid environment is punctuated by the sharp relief of the Sawtooth Mountains in the northeast and the Santa Rosa Mountains in the southwest. A legacy of mineral exploration is evident in the southwestern corner, where a Mine and Prospect are situated near the border of Pinal and Pima Counties. Human infrastructure remains sparse in this 1980s-era survey, limited largely to scattered water sources like Corral Well and an isolated electrical Substation to the north. The wide Aguirre Valley dominates the eastern section of the map, illustrating the vast open spaces of southern Arizona prior to modern development.
