Silver Run Peak and the surrounding high-altitude terrain of the Beartooth Mountains dominate this survey at the border of Montana and Wyoming. The landscape is characterized by massive plateaus and remnant ice bodies, including Hopper Glacier, Beartooth Glacier, and Grasshopper Glacier. This 2014 mapping project provides a clear view of the complex hydrology of the high country, where numerous alpine basins hold named waters such as September Morn Lake, Sky Pilot Lake, and the Silt Lakes. The map documents the administrative intersection of three major federal lands: Gallatin National Forest, Custer National Forest, and Shoshone National Forest. Prominent peaks like Medicine Mtn and Whitetail Peak stand alongside expansive flat-topped features like the Silver Run Plateau, illustrating the unique geomorphology of this sub-alpine wilderness area.
