About this map

The small settlement of Simpson anchors this northern Montana landscape, situated in a region of high plains and coulees just south of the Canadian border. The terrain is defined by the prominent Spring Coulee Ridge and the winding path of Spring Coulee, which cuts through the central portion of the sheet. Genealogical interest is centered on the Spring Coulee Cem, located near the junction of Wild Horse Rd and the Wild Horse Trl. These road names suggest the area's history as a transit corridor across the open range. To the south, the Milk River meanders through the landscape, while the northern reaches are dotted with intermittent water bodies including Grassy Lake, Wild Horse Lake, and Sage Creek, reflecting the seasonal hydrology of Hill County.
