Kootenai National Forest dominates this landscape, where the 8th Standard Parallel North cuts across a complex drainage system in northwestern Montana. The topography is defined by the sharp elevations of Skillet Mountain and Swamp Mountain, with water moving through numerous drainages including Fortine Creek and Cedar Creek. A particularly distinctive industrial feature is the Tunneled Railroad, which includes a marked Tunnel Entrance north of the Twin Meadows Guard Station.
