French Broad River and its many tributaries, including Kimsey Cr and Mud Cr, shape the valley landscape between the Blue Ridge heights and the growing suburban corridors south of Asheville. This 2013 survey captures a mix of industrial and institutional footprints, from the extensive Asheville Regional Airport and the agricultural operations of Biltmore Farms to the campus of the Christ School. The transition from rural to developed is evident in the cluster of residential communities like Royal Pines and Mountain View, while the winding Blue Ridge Pkwy skirts the western mountains near Shut-in Ridge.
