Valley Wells sits at the southern reach of this arid landscape, a site long significant for its water in the transition between the Searles Valley and the northern Mojave Desert. The topography is dominated by the steep ascent of the Argus Range and the Slate Range, which are separated by the namesake Slate Range Crossing. This high pass serves as a critical corridor for the Trona Wildrose Rd, connecting the deep basins of the region.
