Reno Ranch serves as a primary point of human settlement in this high-desert landscape of Jefferson County. The terrain is defined by a series of steep drainages and prominent overlooks, most notably Snaky Canyon and Rattlesnake Point. To the south, the influence of water management on the arid land is evident near the headwaters of the Reno Ditch, which cuts across the flatter basin floor. A network of primitive roads, including Snaky Canyon Rd, provides access through the various gulches and canyons that characterize this part of Idaho. This 2011 survey captures the area at a time when traditional ranching footprints remained distinct within the public lands, marked by features such as Corral Canyon and Reno Gulch.
