Snelling occupies a central position along the Merced River in this modern topographic study of the San Joaquin Valley Central-Valley. The landscape transitions from the relatively flat river basin near the settlement into the undulating terrain of the Bonanza Hills to the northeast. Transportation and local aviation are central to this area's layout, with the Bonanza Hills Airport situated just east of the main town site. A dense network of rural routes, including La Grange Rd and Keyes Rd, facilitates movement across the township lines. The drainage patterns of the region are clearly defined by Peaslee Cr and the various branches of Dry Cr, which carve through the northern sections of the map before approaching the primary river corridor.
