The high elevations of the Magdalena Mountains define this section of the Cibola National Forest in New Mexico. Centered on the 10,783-foot summit of South Baldy, the landscape is a complex network of canyons and high peaks, including Timber Peak and Italian Peak. Scientific and monitoring infrastructure is a notable presence here, with the Langmuir Laboratory and a Lookout Shelter situated near the highest points, connected by a specialized Research Cable.
