Harney Lake dominates the northeastern landscape of this high desert region, where the alkaline basin meets the protected lands of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. The area is characterized by critical water sources that sustain life in an arid environment, including Upper Sizemore Spring, Lower Sizemore Spring, and the centrally located Soldier Spring. Movement through this terrain is largely dictated by S Harney Rd and S Harney-Lake Rd, which skirt the edges of the Warm Springs Valley and provide access to the broader Harney Basin.
